Coast Guard confident of a safe Regatta

PAGADIAN CITY: The traditional regatta and fluvial procession, a religious-civic celebration timed every year with this city’s fiesta celebration, is made sure out of harm's way.

This is the assurance of Lt. Laverny Ikan, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) commander stationed here to local and barangay officials.

Ikan said the PCG in Manila has sent sea-based assets intended for the scheduled activities this weekend.

Their patrol boats, as well as that of the   Philippine Navy and Maritime Police-Security Group will be put out to sea and at the wharf area to provide a systematic, secure and safe celebration of the “Pangadyian Festival,” Ikan added.

Regatta is this city’s sailing event named for the January fiesta of this city’s patron, organized and held yearly for thanksgiving.

In addition to the fluvial procession, a series of boat races that promote camaraderie and sport, a swimming relay and “scubasurero” will also be held.

The Regatta, chaired by Councilor Cesar Dacal Jr., is participated by 12 coastal villages of the city.

Mayor Romeo Pulmones, for his part, thanked officials of the coastal villages for their continued support to the activities as this will also teach the youth what to emulate in the future. (WITH REPORTS FROM PIA)
