PAGADIAN CITY: Monsignor Foelan
“Butch” Echavez, this city’s diocese vicar-general, plead to Catholic faithful
to make Jesus Christ the center of their hearts and homes.
Eachavez echoed his message during
a concelebrated mass held at the wharf area here as he urged mass goers to help
pray for peace in our country.
Filipinos faced with poverty and
fear have no assurance of their future and always face unexpected dangers, he
added.
The bishop mentioned a shooting
incident in front of a college school here which killed two as an example to
drive home his point.
Echavez said he was reminded Pope
Francis’ message in the latter’s meeting with families last Jan. 16 at the Mall
of Asia Arena in Manila where he issued a warning against "ideological
colonization" of families.
Pope Francis’ declaration came from
his reflection on the gospel story of St. Joseph, who was warned in a dream of
dangers that threatened the newly born Jesus.
God is calling people to distinguish
the dangers that threaten families and be careful with it for it tries to
destroy the family; Echavez quoted Pope Francis as saying.
