CHO notes dip in Zambo dengue cases

ZAMBOANGA CITY: The City Health Office (CHO) notes a lower number of dengue cases in 2014, new information said.

City health officer Dr. Rodelin Agbulos, said that the overall number of dengue cases for 2014 registered at 3,590 – much lower than the previous year.

Last year, many dengue cases were noted in July, some 583 cases – the highest figure documented for the entire year.

This prompted CHO to make an extensive health campaign and information dissemination, gradually bringing the number of cases down by December 2014.

Agbulos added the dengue cases in the city are not on the epidemic level but it is still as such considered on alert level and requires close monitoring.

CHO identified the top 10 barangays with the most number of cases as Talon-Talon, Tetuan, Tugbungan, Tumaga, Calarian, Sta. Maria, San Roque, Baliwasan, Ayala, and Putik.

These villages could also get infected with viral diseases such as chicken pox, measles and sore eyes this month as these tend to spike during summer and warm months, Agbulos said.

The CHO added that residents should be aware for all their health activities which will arouse the public’s awareness for different health issues and concerns this month.
