PAGADIAN CITY: Councilor Arnold
Gavenia calls this city’s tricycle drivers as modern day heroes, a new report
said.
Gavenia, chairman of the Motorized
Tricycle Franchising and Regulatory Board (MTFRB), considers the tricycle
drivers as “vital partners” for their role in providing public conveyance.
This city’s Pagadian City Tricycle
Operators and Drivers Association (PACTODA) have some 3,000 members at present.
The councilor lauded PACTODA
members for demonstrating their social obligation to the riding public, rain or
shine.
In tribute to them, Gavenia in 2007
authored an ordinance which declares Jan. 8 each year as “tricycle operators
and drivers day.”
Gavenia disclosed that the city
government, through MTFRB, got around P2 million of annual fees paid by the
tricycle operators.
This, he said, is “more than enough”
to contribute for the city coffers.
