ZAMBOANGA
CITY: Cardiovascular disease, a class of diseases that involve the heart, is a number
one killer disease in 2014, the health office noted.
City
Health Officer Dr. Rodelin Agbulos said that in 2014, a total of 1,074 chavacanos
died of the disease, 655 of which were males while the remaining 419 were
females.
The
other killer diseases include pneumonia, cancer (all types), and other causes
which includes gunshot wounds, vehicular accident, drowning, hacking, stab
wound, poisoning and others.
Diabetes
and its complications is way below, followed by chronic obstructive pulmonary
disease, sepsis, kidney disease and tuberculosis.
Animal
bite is also number one with 4,709 cases for illness, Agbulos added, followed
by acute respiratory infection, myocardial infarction, pneumonia, acute
gastroenteritis, cardiovascular accident, cardiovascular disease (bleed), wounds,
diabetes mellitus type II, and sepsis.
The
health officer said they will focus this year on the prevention of such diseases,
especially cardiovascular disease, advising public to practice a healthy
lifestyle.
